Hi I’ve tried publishing my first plasma widget project with correct category? The product menus apparently keep changing and it’s really unclear what standards to use. Materials keep referring to plasmoid/widget/applet terminology which isn’t consistent and doesn’t help. I see other threads where someone asked to change their category on the backend. Is that the only way?
Plasma 6 Monitoring (category 710)
Plasma 6 Applets (category 706)

Hi and welcome to pling.com – congrats on publishing your first Plasma 6 widget!
You’re right, the category structure can be a bit confusing – even from our side it’s not always a clear-cut decision. For your Battery Plasmoid I’ve gone ahead and moved it to Plasma 6 Monitoring (category 710), which seems like the best fit.
And to answer your question: No, you don’t have to rely on us for that! You can change the category yourself at any time via the Edit function on your product page.
One small tip on the side: We noticed that your product files doesn’t have a version number set yet. In the KDE ecosystem, semantic versioning is generally appreciated and makes it easier for users (and the system) to track updates. If you’re not familiar with it, https://semver.org/ is a great starting point.
Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions – happy to help!
Thank you for that. Yes I’ll set a version and tag a release next. Can you show a screenshot of what menu combination that should be on my end? All I can select that sounds remotely like that is “Plasma Mobile Widgets”
So, this is how your categories should look when you add or edit a product in this category:
Okay, I’ll go with the idea that we definitely need to do something with the UI.
Thank you that’s actually just what I needed but yes it could be simpler
