Can't login or push code to opencode.net

Message mentions invalid LDAP.

Actually, we haven’t noticed any problems. We’ve updated your account information again for the login. It might work now. Please just try again. If it still doesn’t work, then we’ll have to look into it further.

I tried Vivaldi, Falkon and Firefox to login but get the same message each time: “Access denied for your LDAP account.” For now, I’ve started using Codeberg.

Thanks for the feedback. It’s very annoying that the error is still occurring. We’ll definitely look into it again.

Okay, I found the error. Can you please check again to see if it works for you now?

All’s good. :slightly_smiling_face: Thanks again.

Some further problems unfortunately. I stumbled upon an open Issue on my Products page but didn’t receive an email to notify me. Also, the Issue doesn’t record the user name so I can’t contact them for further information. Lastly, my wallpaper Steam City Making sure you're not a bot! doesn’t load via System Settings (Get New…) yet the product page loads OK.

Okay, I’ll take a look at that.

Hi,

Here is what we found.

The wallpaper is not a download problem. We verified that all five dependencies declared in your X-KPackage-Dependencies resolve, download and install correctly from our server, and that the extracted package names match what contents/defaults references, including the plugin IDs (SteamCity, psion-round).

What actually happens is a Plasma behaviour that surprises a lot of theme authors. When a Global Theme ships a layout (yours does, via contents/layouts/org.kde.plasma.desktop-layout.js), the install dialog shows two options: Appearance settings and Desktop and window layout. Only the first one is ticked by default.

The wallpaper does not live in kdeglobals — it lives in the desktop containment. The only code path that rebuilds it is loadLookAndFeelDefaultLayout, and in klookandfeelmanager.cpp that call is gated on the DesktopLayout flag, i.e. on the Desktop and window layout checkbox. There is no itemsToApply.testFlag(Wallpaper) anywhere in the apply path; the Wallpaper flag is only used to show what the theme contains and to clean up on uninstall.

So with only Appearance settings ticked, [Wallpaper] Image=SteamCity is simply never applied — even though the wallpaper package is installed correctly. Users can confirm this with:

plasma-apply-wallpaperimage ~/.local/share/wallpapers/SteamCity

That sets the wallpaper immediately, without the destructive layout reset.

The window decoration works. WindowDecoration is part of AppearanceSettings, so it is applied with the default selection. On our test machine (with manjaro-kde-26.1.0-260812-linux71) kwinrc correctly ended up with org.kde.kwin.aurorae / __aurorae__svg__psion-round, and the decoration was visibly active.

What you might want to do: since the checkbox is off by default and applying the layout wipes the user’s panels and widgets, it is worth adding a line to your product description — something like “to get the wallpaper as intended, tick ‘Desktop and window layout’ when applying, or run plasma-apply-wallpaperimage afterwards”. That would save a fair number of support questions.

One more thing worth knowing: if a user has installed a dependency before and later removed the files by hand, the entry stays in ~/.local/share/knewstuff3/<knsrc>.knsregistry. The handler then reports “already installed” and skips the download without restoring anything. Removing the matching <stuff> entry and reapplying the theme fixes that.

Hope this helps — and thanks for the theme.

I’ve moved your wallpaper to a different category. It belongs in “Wallpapers KDE Plasma,” not “Wallpapers Other.” It won’t show up on the Plasma desktop there.

Hi again,

Thanks for your detailed reply. But just to quickly stand up for myself, I’ve been doing this since the early days of Plasma 5 (on an old now deleted account) and have worked through the many packaging config changes. I’m starting to get good at it now.

Your reply did, however, remind me about state files from the SystemSettings installer. On my system, these were wrongly written and caused many problems including actually crashing plasmashell a number of times.

After clearing these files, everything works properly again. Both window decoration and wallpaper were installed and applied when selecting the Global Theme. These files are located in ~/.local/share/knewstuff3 .

Now, the question is, how do I respond to the open Issue? I don’t know who raised it so I can’t reply with a fix. If I just close it, the user will be rightly annoyed.

Mark

Yes, I’d like to apologize for that—I reread my post with some distance, and it seems I may have gotten a little “carried away.”
But it’s good that you picked out the information that was interesting to you.

Just a quick note on the issues:
We wanted to channel the “frustration” of frustrated users and try to keep it out of the comments. If a project has a public repository, we also point out to users that it might be better to file a report there rather than with us.
The issues are purely “informative” for the creator. We don’t evaluate them or display them on the website. Therefore, I’d like to suggest that you take the information that’s relevant to you and your project and, if necessary, mark the report as “solved”—even if that might be unsatisfying to you.
And users can also submit a report anonymously, which is what’s causing the problem you’re facing now. We could add an option to the form that allows users to provide an email address for follow-up questions. Maybe some people will do that.

Yes please. I like to follow things through.
